Whole-Home Water Filtration & Reverse Osmosis in Las Vegas

Filtration for chlorine, sediment, and drinking water. A different job from a softener, and often the second half of a hard-water house.

Las Vegas tap water is treated Colorado River water. It is safe to drink, and it still tastes like chlorine, carries fine sediment, and measures extremely hard. A water softener fixes the hardness. It does not take the chlorine taste out of a glass of water. That is what filtration is for.

Kingdom Plumbing installs whole-home carbon filtration and under-sink reverse osmosis across the valley. Whole-home filtration treats every tap after the softener, which is what you notice in the shower. Reverse osmosis is a drinking-water system at the kitchen sink, because you do not need RO water in the toilets.

If scale on the glass and a short-lived water heater are the problem, start with [water softener installation](/water-treatment/). If the water is already soft and still tastes off, or you want drinking water that is not bottled, this is the page.

Kingdom Plumbing is a top-rated Las Vegas plumber, and if this can't wait, our 24/7 emergency plumbers dispatch around the clock.

What filtration does that a softener does not

A softener swaps calcium and magnesium for sodium or potassium. The water feels different and stops scaling the heater. Chlorine, chloramine, and the taste that comes with them pass right through a softener resin bed.

A carbon filter adsorbs that chlorine. A sediment stage catches the grit that older galvanized lines in the central valley shed, and the sand that shows up after water-main work. Reverse osmosis pushes water through a membrane and is the step that makes cooking and coffee water taste like you filtered it on purpose.

We test, then we recommend a stage. A house that only hates the taste does not need a four-stage system. A house with rust-colored cold water from old steel pipe needs the sediment stage or it will clog the carbon.

Where the equipment goes in a valley house

Almost nobody here has a basement. Whole-home filters land in the garage or the utility closet, on the main, usually just after the softener if there is one. We include a bypass so a cartridge change does not shut the house down.

Reverse osmosis sits under the kitchen sink with its own faucet, or tied to the refrigerator line if the cabinet can take the tank. Older central Las Vegas kitchens and many Paradise condos have less cabinet room than a Summerlin great-room kitchen. We measure before we promise a tank will fit.

Newer northwest houses, especially in Providence and Skye Canyon, were often roughed with a softener loop. A filter can share that wall. Older Spring Valley and central-valley homes usually need a short run of new pipe to reach the main, and that shows up on the quote.

Install, cartridges, and who to call

You approve a flat rate before we cut into the main. Cartridge life depends on sediment and how much water the house uses. We show you the housings and tell you the interval instead of signing you up for a shipment you did not ask for.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a water filter the same as a water softener?
No. A softener removes hardness minerals so scale stops forming. A filter reduces chlorine, sediment, and, with reverse osmosis, a much wider set of dissolved contaminants for drinking. Las Vegas homes often need the softener for the plumbing and a filter for the taste.
Do I need reverse osmosis for the whole house?
Almost never. RO is slow and wastes some water to the drain, which is fine for drinking and cooking and a poor fit for showers and toilets. We put RO at the kitchen and, when it helps, a carbon filter on the whole house.
Will filtration stop scale on my fixtures?
No. Scale is calcium and magnesium. That is a softener’s job. Filtration will not save a water heater from hard water. If both problems are in the house, we quote them as two systems.
Where should I call for an install?
Centennial Hills and northwest Las Vegas: 8311 Farm Rd, Suite B, Las Vegas, NV 89131, (702) 840-5037. Summerlin and the west side: 9960 W Cheyenne Ave, Suite 140, Las Vegas, NV 89129, (702) 623-9394.
