The constant is very hard water off Lake Mead, in the "very hard" range, and that is why so many homes end up on a softener. Filtration is the other equipment. It does not remove the hardness that spots glass. It is for taste, chlorine, and sediment, either whole-home carbon or a reverse osmosis faucet at the sink.
There is no single filter size for the whole county. A house in the 1950s core and a house on the beltway can share the source water and still want different equipment once we test. Green Valley's published 16 to 17 grains is a Henderson hardness figure, not a filter size for the county.
